Here is a description of some of my past projects. The services offered on each project were tailored to realize the desired outcomes.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP):USCBP sought to increase the speed and security of its financial management systems that govern transactions for trade passing through U.S. borders. I was asked to serve as an Organization Integration Consultant to support this effort. I focused on integrating the areas of training, communication and organizational change management for a financial management-focused IT implementation. I authored the Project Team Training Plan, Knowledge Transfer Strategy, Knowledge Transfer Assessment, Organizational Design and various other documents. I implemented the strategies and plans, contributing to on-time and in-budget project completion. In addition, to increase the productivity of the testing he led a cross-functional team to speed up their efforts.
Ohio Manufacturer’s Association (OMA): OMA found a need to develop sustainability service offerings for its member organizations. Outreach Strategies LLC developed a contract with OMA to create sustainability services for OMA. Change Tactics LLC partnered with Outreach Strategies LLC for this project. My role was to interview leaders within the initiative, facilitate the meeting of an initial working group for sustainability, and develop a path forward for a sustainability working group. High profile sustainability leaders were part of the group including Honda and Whirlpool. Issues facing the organizations focused on sustainability strategy, measurement, regulations, networking, and business risks/opportunities. Developed a report of sustainability within the manufacturing industry in Ohio. We identified new legislation, developed a sustainability working group, and created the groundwork for a mentorship program, partnership with a local university and an annual forum. During the stakeholder interviews, meetings and sharing of the results I engaged stakeholders and gained their buy-in on sustainability approach. The diagnosis and meeting were also an intervention and training. The management for the OMA were the main leaders being training. The SMEs from companies were just as mush teachers as learners.
Alliance for Climate Education (ACE): ACE is the national leader in high school climate science education, providing a free, award-winning assembly on climate science and solutions. ACE currently operates in 23 states nationwide and has reached nearly 1.5 million students at 1,900+ schools in the last three years. ACE needed support to deliver programs to school focused on energy conservation. I developed an Energy Conservation Program for ACE that can be applied to U.S. high schools nationwide. He also provided input to ACE’s strategic direction and operations. This led to delivering an energy conservation program pilot-ed at 7 schools and gained sponsorship from a utility. I mentored the staff on how to develop and implement the energy conservation program. I met one-on-one with the ACE CEO to help her improve the ACE strategic direction. One result was learning that the goal of an energy conservation program is student empowerment, not saving energy. While on the project I met the editor of Green Biz magazine. He published an article I wrote on communicating for organizational change and sustainability.
IBM, Industry Impacts of Climate Change (IICC) Study: IBM conducted a study projecting the impacts of climate change on its clients’ organizations and consulting potential services to support those clients. I served as the Government Workstream Lead. I led a team comprised of 9 team members working in 4 countries. We conducted the research over 3 months. I presented the results to IBM Senior Executives including the CTO. The results were applied to direct Smarter Planet investments of over $1B for business development, marketing and service(s) development. The work also led to me being promoted to a new position working in the Smarter Planet service area.
Science and Technology (STS) Forum Japan: The Science and Technology (STS) Forum is the premier science research event convening leaders in science and government from around the globe. Conducted a 10 Year Retrospective Survey Results based on Council Members’ Feedback. The courses were: Organizational Learning, Organizational Communication, Human Resource Development, Business Strategy, and Human Capital in Orgs. (Org. Behavior). It was 60% virtual, 40% in person. Delivered and further developed 2 courses: Organizational Communication and Human Resource Development. Oversaw 40 professors total across the two courses I chaired. I reviewed their work and mentored new professors. I would provide feedback to every professor to make sure their approach was up to standard. I gave them an initial checklist. Also mentored 1 student per week to give career advice. I taught 25 offerings of courses in 3 years. Received high ratings in all my classes. I improved 2 courses, managed 40 professors, and mentored 6 professors & 20 students. I improved my ability to speak, deliver training, and work virtually. The most rewarding experience was meeting a single mother expecting a second child who worked as a nurse. She was transitioning to work in Human Resources in hospital administration with the degree she was earning in BA HRD. She had a C- on her first paper of 3 papers. I gave her critical feedback of what was wrong. I edited her paper with track changes to show how she could have worded it better. She improved on her next 2 assignments and used the style and grammar feedback. It was also inspiring working one semester at Walter Reed with disabled Veterans. I learned that a lot of their trauma caused injuries affecting their brain processing slowing down their academic work speed and increased frustration. I learned to accommodate them.
United Nations Sustainable Energy for All: This is an initiative led by United Nations to remove barriers for providing sustainable energy to the world by 2030. I worked directly with the Chairman of the Executive Committee to develop strategy and solutions for SE4ALL. EMWS (my business partner) worked directly with the UN SG Ban Ki-moon, and leaders of partner organizations. I served as a working group member and consultant to my father. Created presentation for SE4ALL, provided weekly input on strategy documents, attended meetings in Brussels, Vienna, NY and DC. Was in a working group for 1 year to research partnerships and HUBs for sustainable energy. Met with stakeholders, developed relationships and supported the Chairman to successfully lead. I would meet with stakeholder organizations and then confirm there was a place for their needs within SE4ALL and share contacts to support their business goals. SE4ALL did successful launch and create HUBs for success, annual meetings to connect investors and developing companies, and signed-on over 150 countries to a UN agreement for SE4ALL.

My role was developing a comparison of energy policy, and energy efficiency & clean energy performance in ten countries, to serve as a benchmark for U.S. policy and performance. I also reviewed the entire study and made recommendations to the chairperson of the study, my father. Met with leaders at the NAS to support the chairman, and worked with leadership to develop my section. I also did independent research to develop my section of the study. I participated in working group meetings. My work with UNSE4ALL gave me insight to add to the study. The study was completed and presented to Congress to advice US policy on Energy Efficient and Clean Energy policy.
Phillips Wharf Environmental Center (PWEC): PWEC is a 501(c) nonprofit that focuses on environmental education. Its mission is to encourage, educate, and engage Chesapeake Bay stewards of all ages through interactive experiences showcasing the Bay’s ecosystem and its inhabitants. PWEC needed more funding for its mission. A business plan was needed that could be used in conjunction with grant requests to be a stronger candidate for grants. I led developing a two-year Business Plan for PWEC, describing mission, vision, how benefits will be delivered to participating organizations and the environment, organizational structure and financial planning. A successful business plan was created. It was used by PWEC to win several grants. I also introduces PWEC to another NGO I worked with to develop a connection between them.
World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD): Led a ten-year update of case studies of 70 organizations described in the book, Walking the Talk: The Business Case for Sustainable Development. Determine which companies were more successful and why in terms of both sustainability and financial success. Analyzed companies using a mixed methodology of quantitative and qualitative research methods to determine how financial success correlated to success in terms of sustainability (carbon footprint, emissions, social responsibility and other areas). Based on this qualitative analysis, 25 of the 70 organizations were determined to be the most successful leaders. These 25 organizations made public, durable commitments to sustainability; shared their performance and best practices in a transparent way; and worked to raise the standards of their respective industries.

Improve the best practices for Smart Buildings sales and project delivery. Developed a change management approach for Smart Buildings sales and project delivery. This included designing stakeholder engagement strategy, creating templates for twelve types of work products, and defining the value of change management- realizing return on investment, user adoption, effective project implementation and energy conservation. This knowledge capital helped increase the offering of the Smart Buildings practice at Accenture and led to me being offered a project with Verizon in Texas.
Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE): BGE implemented SAP modules Human capital Management and Financial Management. I served as a Change Management Consultant for Accenture’s Change Management activities. As part of the transformation communications and training were required. I developed training for the Customer Care & Billing (CC&B) aspects of the project. Resulted in delivering the Customer Care & Billing (CC&B) training handbook.
IBM Smarter Buildings and Cities: IBM Smarter Buildings and Cities (i.e., part of IBM Smarter Planet) is IBM’s approach to using IT and energy, water, and resource efficiency expertise to make building and city systems, structures and processes more sustainable. Support was needed to develop this new practice area. New best practices and tools were needed. I created templates for five new energy consulting services. I developed an assessment tool for a Building Maturity Model Assessment. This led to educating IBM executives on the potential new services. Development began with technology leads at IBM to create the technical solutions based on the results of the assessments.
Commonwealth of Kentucky: To innovate the IT systems for Kentucky state government, the KHRIS Project was developed to implement new financial and human resource management systems. I served as the Communication Lead. I developed and delivered a comprehensive internal and external Communication Plan to an audience of over 140,000 state employees for the state of Kentucky. I guided a team of 11 key communicators for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Also, I redesigned and deployed the onboarding program for new team members, leading to reduced attrition. I served on the PMO and contributed to weekly issues and risks meetings. This led to effective communications delivery for the project.

I spearheaded planning and implementing the Change Readiness Assessment, Communications Survey and Training Workshop Assessment. The additional assessments provided data to better direct project efforts and contributed to making PG&E a more effective organization. The SOW for organizational design contributed to the initial Statement of Work being accepted by PG&E.
